KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordering the administration of Karachi Gymkhana to continue construction work in limits of its boundary wall and issued bailable arrest warrants of the director of culture and tourism Manzoor Qanasro and SHO civil lines.
The SHC heard the contempt of court petition filed by the administration of Karachi gymkhana against commissioner Karachi, Director General Sindh Building Control Authority and others.
The commissioner and others nominated in the case submitted a reply in the court, as per the report the Karachi gymkhana building supposed to include as heritage site besides that Supreme Court (SC) has barred illegal construction inside the gymkhana while the administration of Karachi gymkhana wanted to bulldoze tennis court so that it could construct parking area.
On the occasion, petitioner counsel said that the Karachi gymkhana doesn’t count as heritage site adding that just by issuing the government letter the gymkhana can not be included in the heritage site while there is need of a gazette notification to be issued to declare any building as a heritage site.
The petitioner counsel also informed the court that the commissioner Karachi and Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) didn’t have any authority to stop work in a private building.
Later the court allowing the administration of Karachi gymkhana to continue construction work in the premises its boundary wall and rejected the request of commissioner Karachi and DG SBCA.
Besides, the court also adjourned the hearing until July 15 after issuing bailable arrest warrants of the director of culture and tourism Manzoor Qanasro and SHO civil lines.
