Ashraf Ghani Blames Pakistan of Being ‘Taliban Centre’

Kabul (February 02, 2018): Ashraf Ghani, president of Afghanistan has accused Pakistan as a “Taliban centre”, accusing the neighbouring country of harbouring militants behind a recent bombing and raid on a hotel in Afghanistan’s capital.

Ghani has blamed Pakistan of failing to act against the Taliban, after two recent attacks by militants led to scores of deaths in Kabul.
“We are waiting for Pakistan to act,” Ghani said on Afghan television.Gunmen stormed Kabul’s Intercontinental Hotel in January murdering at least 22 people. The deaths of staff members at one of Afghanistan’s airline in the attack has led to major recruitment problems for the company.

A week later and a more devastating attack was launched by the Taliban when an “ambulance bomb” was detonated in central Kabul killing over 100 people.

Eleven people have been detained over the killings and Kabul claims its investigators had uncovered proof that attacks were hatched in Pakistan.“The attack is not against our men, women or children but against the Afghan nation and it requires a national, comprehensive response,” he added.

Washington has threatened to cut $2 billion in military aid to Pakistan unless the government tackles terrorism and militancy in the country.
