Asma murder case: Imran gives KP police a pat on the back

ISLAMABAD: PTI chief Imran Khan showered praise on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police on Wednesday for adhering to professional practices and apprehending suspects in the Asma rape-and-murder case.

In a couple of tweets on the micro-blogging site, the cricketer-turned-politician termed KP police as a ‘professional police force’ and stated that commendable work had been done on their part despite the fact that there was no CCTV footage of the act and no other evidence.

“Commendable work by the professional KP police force. In the Asma case, with just one spot of blood found & no other evidence, no CCTV footage, KP police worked professionally to catch culprit showing they have developed advanced forensic detection capability as well,” he wrote.

Imran stated how Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had not gloated over the incident but ‘as is done all over the democratic world, the police chief gave a professional press briefing.’

Asma was found dumped in a sugarcane field near her house in Mardan on January 14 after she went missing earlier while she was playing outside her house located in Gujjar Garhi area of Mardan.

Earlier, family of the little girl, local authorities and doctors had voiced suspicion that she was subjected to sexual assault before she was strangulated to death.

Supreme Court of Pakistan took suo motu notice of sexual assault and murder of the girl.
