Former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar believes that sacking Sarfaraz Ahmed as captain of all formats was the wrong move.
Speaking at a function on Sunday, Akhtar claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) could have retained Sarfaraz as the captain of T20Is.
Referring to the recent loss against Australia, he said:
It was a tough test nonetheless but the excuse of touring a country for the sake of learning is wrong. You go there to win. There were some critical mistakes. (Mohammad) Abbas should have played (in the Brisbane Test). They have to bring in strong characters.
He further stated:
These ‘relu kattas‘ won’t do any good. As I said before, axing him (Sarfaraz) as the T20I skipper was the wrong move.
Akhtar blamed Pakistan’s selection and said it played a huge part in Pakistan’s poor display.
Haris Sohail should have batted at number four or six and Babar should have been promoted higher up the order.
Previously, the PCB patron-in-chief Imran Khan said that if Sarfaraz performs in the domestic circuit then he can surely make a come back in the national team.
It remains to be seen what the PCB approach is for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2020 as well.
