Blasphemous content: IHC summons Secretary Interior in-person


ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court summoned Secretary Interior in-person in a plea challenging blasphemous contents allegedly shared by some individuals on Youtube and Facebook accounts, on October 3.

Justice Shoukat Aziz Siddiqui directed the respondents to submit reply of the petition till next date of hearing in a plea moved by a citizen Shoaib Safdar.

The petitioner alleged that a person namely, Muhammad Ibrahim Qadri and a Non-Muslim wwere spreading blasphemous contents making accounts on the Facebook adding the accused also launched a channel on Youtube for the said purpose.

He informed the bench that petitioner had approached the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) complaining the act of the accused.

He claimerd that no action was taken by the authorities till date.

He contended that the authorities including the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had failed to comply with the earlier court orders for blocking pages or websites containing blasphemous material on the social media.

He requested the bench seeking directions for authorities for blockage of blasphemous pages on social media.

The bench after going through the arguments issued notices to the respondents and adjourned the case till October 3.

The petitioner has cited Secretary Ministry of Interior, Secretary Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOIT), Federal Investigation Agency, PTA and others as respondents. – APP
