Karachi (February 15, 2018): The Sindh High Court on Thursday summoned report regarding corrupt practices in construction of new Sindh Assembly building and MPA Hostel and adjourned the hearing till March 15.
As per detail, the petition in this regard was filed by MQM-P MPA Afshan Mansoor regarding an inquiry into the alleged wrongdoings in construction of these projects from NAB.
During the hearing, the assistant advocate general appeared before the court on behalf of the provincial government. The applicant took the plea that as per PC-I, the estimates for MPA Hostel construction is Rs2.7 billion which has now raised upto Rs 11.40 billion.The applicant said that as per 30 June 2017 an amount of Rs 6.72 billion was released from the provincial exchequer despite completion of less than 50 percent work at the site.
She said that the Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani was supervising the construction work and given the task for its completion to one of his blue-eyed official.
The petitioner also said that accountant general, provincial finance department and some other officials are involved in this scam and had also transferred an anti-corruption officer probing this issue.Afshan Mansoor said that out of turn promotions and illegal recruitments were carried out at the provincial assembly but no one is paying heed towards it.
She requested the court to probe into the matter as soon as possible and also direct accountant general Sindh to halt more payments for the project.The MQM-MPA also included Speaker Sindh Assembly, Secretary Sindh Assembly, Secretary Law, Chairman NAB, DG NAB and provincial anti-corruption department as respondents in the case.
The court admitted the plea and summoned detailed report by March 15. It also remarked that other than corruption charges the court would also look into others matters of the Assembly and would also look into if the lawmaker who had filed the petition has not done any wrongdoing.
The court also ordered the petitioner to appear before court on March 15 and also summoned the record of recruitment in the assembly.
