DC security robot drowns itself in apparent suicide

A security robot in Washington DC was found in a water fountain in what Twitter users are calling a ‘suicide’.

The Knightscape K5 robot, which was placed at Georgetown Waterfront for patrol duty, ran itself into a fountain. The 300-pound, 5-feet tall machine features a rocket shaped, armless design that makes it difficult for it to get back up after toppling over.

However, this robot’s straight dive into a fountain seems truly like an act of free will, hence prompting Twitteratti to suggest that the ill-fated robot may have been overwhelmed by its job and could possibly have committed suicide.

The K5 are evidently prone to accidents and earlier incidents have been reported where the robots tipped over. The robot also made headlines last year after it was knocked over by a drunk man. Before that, it also reportedly knocked down and ran over a 16-month-old boy.
