Islamabad(The Election Commission has allowed on Monday issuance of notification regarding appointment of Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority.
The permission has been granted on government’s request as the commission has placed a ban on appointments and recruitments in connection with upcoming general elections.
On May 29, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday objected to the appointment of Principal Information Officer (PIO) Saleem Baig as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman.Taking notice of the appointment, ECP said that an earlier request made by the federal government regarding the selection was not approved. ECP also seeks a reply from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in this regard.
On the same day, President Mamnoon Hussain has approved the summary of appointment of Mohammad Saleem Baig as chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
An officer of the Information Service, Saleem had been serving as the Principal Information Officer with the federal government.
