We already know several things about it, it has a notched cutout on its front, it will feature a phablet-sized tall display, and it will have an affordable price. This time, the Redmi 6 is coming in different variants, which might get named Redmi 6 Plus and Redmi 6 Pro after getting launched.

Moreover, its leaked test unit has also surfaced online alongside TENAA’s listings, so we have a good idea of what it will look like when it hits the shelves tomorrow.

Design & Display

The Redmi 6 is going to be among the first Xiaomi phones to feature a notched display. As the trend is becoming popular, Chinese manufacturers are manufacturing their own iterations of a notched display in budget phones to attract the entry-level and midrange crowd. For the design and material finish, it is expected to have a metal build just like most of Xiaomi’s affordable line up.

The rear design is pretty generic, the company did its best to minimize costs on premium looks in order to add better hardware along with that notched display. It might not look like it, but it will surely have great hardware. The rear looks quite similar to Xiaomi’s recent smartphones, a vertical dual camera array, a cosmetic engraving on the top, and a fingerprint sensor on the side.

The display, as seen in the pics, has a 5.84-inch panel. TENAA’s listings say that it has an FHD+ (1080 x 2240) resolution at an aspect ratio of 19:9 (because of the notch). As for the display technology, it’s highly likely to be a TFT/IPS LCD because Xiaomi does not usually use OLED panels in its budget lineup.

Unlike most companies, Redmi 6 has a rather prominent white colored notch, so notch hiding software features won’t necessarily work if you wish to hide it. It might get more color options later.

Internal Specifications

Redmi 6 Plus (codenamed M1804C3DE), or whatever it gets called in the future, has a 2 GHz octa-core CPU.

The listings have not revealed the name or make of the chipset, but its likely to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 or a Helio P60 – these are popular midrange processors that are octa-core and have the same core configuration.

Storage and RAM options are 2/16 GB, 3/32 GB, and 4/64 GB – expandable via microSD.

The base Redmi 6 is expected to have a lower-end processor instead, and a slightly smaller display. However, the two Redmi 6 Plus and Pro variants will share processors and the same footprint with a taller display than the Redmi 6’s.

Camera, Software, & Battery

The rear dual camera set up will consist of a 12 MP main sensor and a 5 MP secondary depth sensor. This set up is used to provide background blur for portrait mode. The Redmis are going to have a higher resolution front camera than the rear camera.

It will come with Android 8.1 Oreo, with Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 10 on top. Battery size, according to TENAA, is 3,900 mAh. It might not get a fast charging such as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge.

Several colors options of Black, Rose Gold, Champagne Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, and Silver will be available, though.

It will get launched by Xiaomi tomorrow (12 June), and will soon hit the shelves in China. It is likely to get an international launch, as Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup is highly popular throughout the world. We’ll let you know when more details become available related to its price and other features.
