ISLAMABAD: A local court on Saturday sent former Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi to jail on charges of record tampering in the prime minister’s disqualification case.
Upon comp completion of Zafar Hijazi’s physical remand period, the former SECP chairman was presented in front of senior civil judge Mohammad Shabbir at a local court.
During proceedings, FIA requested the court for an additional three days of physical remand of the accused. However, FIA rejected FIA’s request and sent Zafar Hijazi on judicial remand to Adiala Jail.
The court issued directives for Zafar Hijazi to again be presented before the judge on August 9.
Zafar Hijazi was accused by the Joint Investigation Team probing the Panama Leaks case of tampering important records.
Hijazi had refuted the allegations and rejected claims that he had tampered the records.
