Five Drowned as Chairlift Falls Into River in Swat


Swat (July 15, 2017): The chairlift over Swat River carrying people from Kalam Pamir to their way home fell into river and five people drowned as two of them retrieved safely.  

Two people have died and two persons were retrieved safely while the search operation is being continued for the fifth.

Local people said all the victims belonged to the same family who were crossing the river in a chairlift when the rope carrying the chairlift snapped and fell into the river.
Soon after the incident, local people recovered three dead bodies of Shaukat, Sher Azam and Amjad whereas Akram and Amir Said were retrieved in injured condition.

It is pertinent to mention, the area residents often cross the river in locally made chairlifts due to the unavailability of bridges over the river.
Few days earlier, in a similar incident in Murree, 10 tourists died when a local made chairlift fell down due to overloaded.
