KARACHI: Police on Thursday claimed to have foiled an attempt of terrorism in Karachi during Muharram-ul-Haraam by killing five militants in an encounter, Samaa reported.
The militants belonging to banned outfits were eliminated during a police operation in Sachal neighborhood of the city.
Speaking to reporters, SSP Rao Anwar said the terrorists belonged to al Qaeda and Daesh. He said Amir Sharif, one of the terrorists, was an engineer and IT expert.
The police officer claimed that the terrorists wanted to target key installations in the city.
Rao Anwar told reporters that one of the terrorists has been identified as a close associate of Saad Aziz, the mastermind of Safoora carnage.
Following the shootout, police claimed to have recovered hand grenades, Kalashnikovs and rockets from a house where the militants used to live. – Samaa
