Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis and Chairman National Tourism Coordination Board (NTCB) Zulfiqar Bukhari has announced that the federal government will launch ‘Brand Pakistan’ to boost tourism.
Addressing a media conference, the SAPM revealed that Brand Pakistan will be launched before the end of 2020.
He added that Pakistan will host the World Tourism Forum in 2021 which will be attended by tourism ministers from 8 countries, including Turkey and Iran, and is expected to draw investment worth $3 billion.
In this regard, Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) has devised a detailed plan to reform the tourism sector in Pakistan.
We have formulated a comprehensive policy on tourism from 2020 to 2030 and with that we have also introduced a five-year action plan. Like other countries, Pakistan had planned to launch a program to promote tourism earlier this year which was delayed due to the Coronavirus.
NTCB will also launch a National Tourism Portal by the end of 2020 to facilitate tourists.
The national portal will contain relevant information regarding tourism including the booking details of motels in different tourist destinations.
Zulfiqar Bukhari has clarified that the federal government is not planning to abolish PTDC.
PTDC motels have been shut down and all of its employees fired because the department had accumulated losses worth Rs. 700 million over the years due to the negligence of the management.
In the face of growing losses, the federal cabinet in 2019 had decided to initiate the PTDC restructuring program which required tough decisions.
After PTDC’s restructuring, 46 new 3 and 4 star motels will be inaugurated around Pakistan in the coming years.
President of World Tourism Forum Institute (WTFI), Bulut Bağci, has also voiced support for Pakistan government’s bold decision to restructure PTDC.
The Move on PTDC Hotels is in line with any progressive tourism destination, where governments are ready to take bold actions, cut through yers of bad standards and service delivery, and ready to up their game, + @sayedzbukhari @ImranKhanPTI
