ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Monday threatened to issue contempt of court notices to the prime minister, interior minister and religious affairs minister if the Raja Zafar-ul-Haq report was not presented during the next hearing.
Proceedings of the Faizabad dharna case were underway at the high court. Despite the court’s orders, government representatives were not able to present the report today.
“You were told to submit the report today without the interior minister’s signature if it came to that,” said Justice Shaukat Siddiqui. “Why should we not hold those responsible in contempt of court today?”
Justice Shaukat Siddiqui sternly warned deputy attorney general not to play games with the court and said that if the government did not comply with court’s orders, why would others.
“We need time since this is a sensitive matter,” said the deputy attorney general. “Give us 15 days time to submit the report.”
“This is not a sensitive matter for you,” remarked the judge. “You do not realise that there can be no compromise on the issue of Khatam-e-Nabuwwat.”
Justice Shaukat Siddiqui warned the deputy attorney general that if the report was not submitted in court by the next hearing, then contempt of court notices would be issued to the prime minister, interior minister and religious affairs minister.
Proceedings of the case were suspended till February 20, 2018.
During the last hearing of the case, the Islamabad High Court had slammed IB chief for failing to identify the voice of the viral audio clip in which a religious cleric was making insulting remarks regarding Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.
