Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is set to address supporters on Sunday evening at Islamabad’s Parade Ground following Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification by the top court in the Panama Papers case.
Imran has reached the venue as other party leaders address supporters, gathered to celebrate Nawaz’s ouster from power in the landmark judgment.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz posted a tweet saying, “Mohabaton ka wohi samandar….. That’s how he is being greeted by the public… Titles don’t matter.”
Earlier during the day, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique said the “Sharifs” will keep on making a comeback despite the ouster.
According to him, “the masses, even those not related with PML-N, had reservations on sending off an elected PM home.” Controversial decisions always remain controversial, he added.
In a separate media talk, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, chosen to be next Prime Minister by the the party’s parliamentary body, said the masses had not accepted the verdict of the top court. Similarly, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman said “they stood with the country and not personalities,” while supporting Nawaz Sharif.
On Saturday, the PML-N confirmed the former petroleum minister’s name as the interim PM, saying Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take over the slot after the interim setup is complete.
