Indian soldier dies in exchange of fire along LoC

SRINAGAR: An Indian soldier was killed Monday during an exchange of fire along the de facto border in held Kashmir, just a day after four Pakistani soldiers were killed in a similar skirmish.

A police official, who asked to remain anonymous, said an eight-year-old girl was also killed and her mother was seriously injured.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan Army director general of military operations (DGMO) contacted his Indian counterpart and warned him of a “stronger” response to the Indian aggression against Pakistani troops.

The response came a day after four Pakistani soldiers drowned after Indian troops targeted their vehicle along the LoC and it fell into Neelum River in Athmaqam.

Last year on November 23, Indian army targeted a passenger bus in the same area, killing 12 civilians. There have since been repeated outbreaks of firing across the frontier, with both sides reporting deaths and injuries including of civilians.
