Lahore (July 18, 2017): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday suspended the appointment of Usman Khattak as permanent inspector-general of police (IGP) Punjab.
Chief Justice LHC Justice Manzoor Ali Shah heard a petition filed by Saad Rasool for appointment of permanent IGP in Punjab.

The court was told that Usman Khattak was appointed as permanent IGP. The notification of the appointment was also produced in the court.
However, petitioner Saad Rasool objected to the appointment of Khattak, saying that he is to reach superannuation after three months and retire.
Upon this, the CJP expressed anger, saying that Punjab government was joking with the judiciary.
He remarked that as per Police Order 2002, the IGP is appointed for three year. He added that apparently the government did commit contempt of court.
The court while suspending the appointment of Khattak as IGP Punjab sought the counsel of parties for arguments on July 29, 2017.
The Punjab government issued a notification of transfer and posting of officers on Monday. According to the notification, Additional Secretary CM Secretariat Syed Masood Numan has been transferred and posted as PSO to CM.
Punjab Economic Research Institute. Capt (retd) Zahid Mumtaz has been transferred and posted as Additional Secretary Energy Department (Security and Coordination).
