New York (February 12, 2018): One of the most popular Russian websites has named Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations among the “five successful women diplomats”.
According to a report by Russia’s official news agency, the website – Gazeta.ru has named Maliha Lodhi in “Five successful women diplomats”.Describing Ambassador Lodhi as “one of the most famous female figures in the Muslim world,” Gazeta.ru noted that she twice served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States.

Another important diplomatic assignment she held was as the High Commissioner to Britain, after an illustrious career in journalism, especially as editor of The News International, one of the largest Pakistani English-language newspapers.“Gazeta.ru”, which has a million visitors on a daily basis, honours women who have followed in the footsteps of the defunct Soviet Union’s “highly acclaimed” diplomat, Alexandra Kollontai, and succeeded in the profession.
Kollontai, a Russian Communist Revolutionary, served as ambassador to Norway, one of the first women from that country to hold such a post.
Gazeta.ru also noted that Dr. Lodhi was the first Pakistani woman to serve as Permanent Representative and chief delegate to the United Nations.
The Russian website stated that Ambassador Lodhi’s success in journalism set the stage for her diplomatic career. She was first selected by the late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to serve as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States.
