LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Tuesday that the Model Town incident report had been made public on the internet in compliance of orders issued by Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He said that the Model Town report was not a decision by any judge but was just an inquiry report.

He insisted that Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif was not aware of the incident when it unfolded. It was only after he saw it on television, did he come to know about the clash that had taken place, claimed Sanaullah.

Rana Sanaullah said that an attempt had been made in the report to make Shehbaz Sharif’s comments suspicious. He said that the Model Town report was based on unverified reports.

“The testimonies that the Model Town report is based on are unrelated,” he claimed. “The conflict took place as a result of the resistance put up by Awami Tehreek workers,” he added.

He said that Punjab government operated under the ambit of the law and had delivered according to its promise that as soon as the high court ordered the report to be made public, the provincial government would comply.

“We have decided not to challenge the decision of the high court,” stated Sanaullah.

Rana Sanaullah said that he had never seen a report such as this before in his life. The law minister further said that from a legal point of view, the report was erroneous.

He said that the report would not create complications for the government but certain other individuals who were confident of shocking disclosures coming to the fore as a result of it.

“I will send a special copy to the devil from Pindi who said that there was a ‘bomb’ in the report,” he said. “I’ll ask him to find me that ‘bomb’,” he added.

The law minister further said that no government representative has been held responsible for the Model Town incident and claimed that if one was to go through the report, he could form his own opinion.

“According to the Model Town incident report, Allama sahab can also be held responsible for the incident,” he said, referring to Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri.
