Peshawar: Death toll in a marble mine collapse has reached 17.

The rescue work at the site is being continued as it is feared that more people are stranded in the debris.

A mine in Ziarat area of Safi Tehsil of Mohmand tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa suddenly collapsed on Monday initially eight people were killed.

District Police Officer (DPO) Mohmand Tariq Hameed said that bodies and injured people have been shifted to hospitals from remote areas

Provincial Special Assistant for Minerals Arif Ahmadzai, while expressing grief over the incident, said that rescue operations were underway at the site. Based on preliminary information, the accident was caused by a landslide, however, a formal inquiry into the incident has been ordered, he added.
