Islamabad: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has initiated the process for appointment of Special Committee to launch a parliamentary probe into Ayesha Gulalai’s allegations of sexual harassment against Imran Khan.
Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Chief Whip, PML-N and Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, have been requested to nominate 13 and 7 members in proportion to strength of Parliamentary Parties belonging to the Treasury and the Opposition, respectively for this Special Committee on Ethics.
The move comes hours after a motion was adopted by the National Assembly authorizing the Speaker National Assembly to appoint a Special Committee under rule 244 (B) of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007 to inquire into the matter relating to Ms. Ayesha Gulalai, MNA reported in the media recently and raised in National Assembly today.
The female PTI MNA has accused Imran Khan of sending 13 indecent text messages, a charge he denied and called it a conspiracy by the ruling PML-N.
In a series of tweets, PTI spokesman Shafqat Mahmood rejected what he called a committee of his adversaries.
“Clever trick by new PM to form parliamentary committee to sit on judgement of AG allegations. We don’t accept committee of our adversaries,” he maintained.
“We welcome indeed demand an impartial inquiry to AG’s false accusations but not through a committee of our political adversaries.”
“Does it make any sense to be judged impartially by those who have every reason to see you politically go down? We reject parliamentary committee” – SAMAA
