ISLAMABAD: After Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court on Friday, former President and army chief Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf said that the former prime minister has been proven corrupt and should be punished.
Speaking to SAMAA TV, Musharraf congratulated the members of the JIT and the judges of the Supreme Court. He termed the decision to disqualify Nawaz Sharif as a historic one.
Musharraf said that if he were to suggest the name of a prime minister for PML-N, then that person would not be nominated.
“I should name Khawaja Asif so he does not become the prime minister,” he said jokingly.
The former president said that the decision to disqualify prime minister was the right one.
“My confidence in the judiciary was shaken because of Iftikhar Chaudhry,” he said. “But now it has been restored after this decision,” he added.
