Nawaz Sharif, Maryam allowed to leave for London

ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court on Wednesday granted permission to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz to leave for London.

In today’s formal trial of the Sharif family in connection with corruption cases, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam and her husband Captain (retd) Safdar arrived at the court where they filed an application seeking exemption from personal appearance.

Nawaz Sharif stated that he has to look after his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz in London; therefore, he should be granted the leniency for one week.

Maryam sought exemption for a month during which her representative will attend all hearings.

Judge of the Accountability Court Islamabad Muhammad Bashir accepted both the applications, allowing Nawaz Sharif and Maryam to fly to London.

As the hearing begun, prosecution witnesses Sidra Mansoor of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan recorded her statements in connection with Avenfield Properties Reference (London Properties).

NAB prosecutor also filed record and audit report of the Hudaibiya Papers Mills. This report was cross examined by Nawaz Sharif’s counsel Khawaja Haris and Maryam Nawaz’s lawyer.

Meanwhile, the court adjourned hearing till Nov 22. Four witnesses have been summoned for the next hearing.

The court deferred the matter of declaring Nawaz’s sons Hassan and Hussain as proclaimed offenders till next hearing.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three corruption cases – Avenfield Properties, Alazizia Steel Mill, Flagship Investment reference – against Sharif family on the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan in Panama case ruling. – Samaa
