ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that Nawaz Sharif could not be separated from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Speaking to media persons, Ahsan Iqbal said “our enemy is making threats of surgical strikes whereas inside the country, surgical strikes are being carried out on the parliament and government to spread a chaos. Who is going to benefit from it?”
His remarks came in response to a threat made by Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat.
I a recent interview, Bipin Rawat threatened Pakistan by stating that the Indian Army has several options on the table including that of the surgical strike.
“Pakistan thinks it is fighting a war that is paying them dividends but we have several options, including surgical strikes,” he alleged.
Ahsan Iqbal linked the Indian army chief’s remarks with domestic political situation in Pakistan.
“We should desist from steps which may destabilize Pakistan,” Iqbal said, adding that political realities cannot be altered with court’s rulings.
“Nawaz Sharif is the founder of the PML-N. He was our leader in the past and he will remain so in the future as well,” he said.
The interior minister said that Nawaz Sharif’s leadership cannot be removed from the PML-N.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan barred Nawaz Sharif from heading the PML-N, saying that a disqualified person cannot lead a political party. – SAMAA
