Pakistan Navy to Upgrade Runway for Naval Air Station Ormara

Pakistan Navy is increasing its presence and bolstering its infrastructure along the Balochistan coastal belt. After making the Turbat Naval Air Base operational in the region,  the Navy has now started to lay down the groundwork for the expansion of the runway at the Naval Air Station Ormara.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah was the chief guest at the ground breaking ceremony at Naval Air Station Ormara. He had the honor of unveiling the plaque.

It should be mentioned that the Naval Air Station Ormara currently serves narrow body and small aircraft, and that the current runway can only stay operational during daylight.

This expansion project is expected to increase the length and width of the runway.  Once its completed, all types of wide body aircraft will be able to land and take off from this runway. Additionally, the Air Station will continue to be operational during day and night as well. The upgraded runway will make it possible for aircraft to land and take off no matter what kind of weather is during any time of the day.

Construction work is expected to be completed in one year.

Chief of Naval Staff Muhammad Zakaullah said that this is project is very important for the country’s defense.

Commander Coast Rear Admiral Abdul Aleem, in his welcome address, highlighted the significance of the new runway for Naval Air operations in Balochistan.

“Construction of new runway at Ormara is yet another manifestation of Pakistan Navy’s aim of westward expansion.”

Chief of Naval Staff also inaugurated the academic block of Cadet College Ormara, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah interacted with the project team and congratulated them over the timely completion of the project. He appreciated their spirit and expressed hope that the college will play an important role in nation building.

The aim of the Cadet College Ormara is to bring the young generation of Balochistan into the socio-economic mainstream of the country thats at par with other provinces through quality education and training.

Since its inception, 5 batches of cadets have enrolled in the college. In addition to the academic block, the new building of CCO will comprise of cadet hostels, shooting range, science and computer labs, auditorium, play grounds, library and a mosque.

Both the ceremonies were attended by officials of Pakistan Navy, Frontier Works Organization, Civil Aviation Authority, Civil administration, educationists and a large number of local notables.
