Pakistan wants durable peace in the region: PM Imran

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday presided over a high-level meeting at PM Office.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Foreign Secretary and other senior officials.

During the meeting, bilateral relations with various friendly countries and issues relating to security came under discussion.

The meeting also discussed on matters relating to the foreign minister’s Afghanistan visit and PM Imran Khan’s Saudi Arabian visit were also discussed.

The military leadership apprised the prime minister about border management and border fencing with Afghanistan.

On the occasion, PM Imran Khan said that Pakistan wants friendly ties with all neighbouring countries in the region and peace in the region.

“Peacefull Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan,” he said and added Islamabad will continue to support political stability and steps to restore peace.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi will embark on one-day Kabul visit on September 15 (Saturday). It will be his first foreign trip in incumbent position following the invitation of his Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani.

The visit is deemed interesting and full of challenges for Qureshi who will held a significant meeting with Afghan president Ashraf Ghani.

The foreign minister will extend the invitation of Prime Minister Imran Khan to Ghani for Pakistan visit.

Pakistan will reiterate its peace offer to Afganistan and will stress upon sorting out Afghan issue through negotiations.
