PCB lodges complaint against private channel for airing interview against Sarfaraz

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has lodged a complaint with Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) against a private channel for airing an “imprudent discussion” against the national team’s skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The remarks in question were made by former team captain Aamir Sohail following Pakistan’s defeat of Sri Lanka in the Champions Trophy.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, Pemra said it has issued a show-cause to Samaa TV to explain its position and given it till June 23 to respond.

The channel’s chief executive has also been summoned for a hearing set for June 23 at 11am. “If Amir Sohail wishes to record his statement he can do so on the same day,” the press release said.

It warns that Pemra will be liable to take action if a response is not received in the given time and the channel’s chief fails to show up at the hearing.

Sohail has come under fire after he criticised Sarfaraz in an on-air analysis after Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka during the Champions Trophy saying Sarfaraz had “nothing to be smug about; he just became captain”.

Aamir clarifies ‘facilitators’ comment

Sohail continued by saying Sarfaraz was facilitated in his victory. “[We won because of] prayers and God; and I cannot name the facilitators of those prayers. You [Sarfaraz] have done nothing special, this match was won for you, we all know how things work.”

The former captain received across the board criticism for his statements. He later tried to clarify his comments saying they were taken out of context and he never implied match fixing or foul play.

He also posted a video to his Twitter account before the India-Pakistan final, asking Sarfaraz to block out all the negativity and wishing him well for the match.
