President Lauds NAB Role in Eradication of Corruption


Islamabad (November 14, 2017): The president Mamnoon Hussain met with new chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice retired Javed Iqbal on Tuesday and hailed the role of NAB in elimination of corruption across the country.

“The NAB has played vital role in eradication of corruption from the country and I hope it will pay its responsibility with firm commitment in future,” President said.

President has also facilitated chairman NAB for his appointment as chairman NAB.

On October 10, justice (retd) Javed Iqbal had appointed as Chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).  

Javed Iqbal appointment comes at a time when anti-graft watchdog is engaged in corruption cases against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family members.

Justice Javed Iqbal’s appointment was made after Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah developed consensus over his name following the mandatory consultation process.Iqbal replaced Chaudhry Qammar-uz-Zaman, whose term expired on October 10.

Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal was among the three names recommended by the opposition leader for the post. Two others recommended for the slot were Justice (retd) Faqeer Muhammad Khokhar and former secretary election commission Ishtiaq Ahmed.

Whereas, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had suggested the names of incumbent Intelligence Bureau chief Aftab Sultan, Justice (retd) Rehmat Jaffery, and Justice (retd) Ejaz Chaudhry for the post.
