Record-tampering case: SECP boss granted 5-day bail

ISLAMABAD: Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi has been granted five-day interim bail on Monday.

Zafar Hijazi appeared before a lower court today and the sessions judge Tahir Mehmood granted his pre-arrest bail and ordered him to submit surety bonds worth Rs.500,000.

Earlier, Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved corridor bail application of Zafar Hijazi which ended today.

It is pertinent to note here that a criminal case was lodged against Zafar Hijazi at the behest of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

In its July 10 hearing of Panama implementation case, the apex court found him involved in tampering with the SECP documents in order to mislead the court and ordered the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to investigate the charge against Zafar Hijazi.

SECP officer Maheen Fatima testified to  the FIA that she was coerced by SECP boss to malign the JIT interrogators.

She said the SECP boss pressured her to give statement against the JIT members, adding, “I was pressurized by the SECP human resource manager as well.”
