Karachi (December 02, 2017): Senior Superintendent of Police Malir Rao Anwar appeared before a local court in a case of arson, rioting and destruction against former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Saleem Shehzad.
Additional District and Sessions judge Malir heard the case against Saleem Shehzad and others. Saleem Shehzad also appeared before the court.

Recording his statement Rao Anwar said that the forensic report of weapons use in the cases was not available.
The judge responded to Rao’s statement by asking why the forensic of the weapons recovered from the suspect had not been conducted, to which he said that the practice was carried out in the cases registered in different districts.The female judge also evicted reporters covering the case from court room. The judge asked the reporters as to what they were doing in the courtroom. Upon this, a journalist responded that they were there to cover the proceeding as it was an open court.
Upon this, the judge remarked that this was not open court and asked the journalists to leave the courtroom.
On November 28, SSP Malir Rao Anwar had submitted a written apology to a local court over his continuous absence from the court proceedings.Additional District and Sessions judge had also expressed her anger over Malir SSP’s failure to follow court orders.
The judge had remarked, “You will find it more convenient to appear before the court to record your statement from the prison than your house.”
However, Rao Anwar had apologised to the court and said that he skipped the proceedings fearing an attack by Taliban. He later submitted a written apology, which was accepted by the court.Due to the continued absence of Rao Anwar, DSP Khalid and other personnel, the court had issued them a show-cause notice.
Three cases against Saleem Shehzad were registered at Landhi police station in 1992.
