Former petroleum minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s name has been finalised to be appointed as the next ‘interim’ prime minister of the country following Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification, sources have said.
In its verdict, Supreme Court disqualified the PML-N leader over his failure to disclose his ‘un-withdrawn receivables, constituting assets’ in his nomination papers filed ahead of the 2013 general elections.
The court also directed the National Accountability Court to initiate references against Nawaz, his children and son-in-law.
Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif would step down as chief minister of Punjab and be elected to the National Assembly before he is eligible to become prime minister, Express News quoted sources as saying.
