LAHORE: A two-hour long meeting between ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif and real estate tycoon Malik Riaz on Thursday set off speculations that Sharif family is seeking to strike a deal with stakeholders in the current political scenario, Samaa reported Thursday.
According to our correspondent, Naeem Ashraf Butt, the meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Chairman Bahria Town, Malik Riaz, held at Sharif family’s Raiwind residence, and lasted for about two hours.
The meeting was also joined by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
“It was an important meeting in which Sharif brothers discussed various political matters with Malik Riaz. They have reportedly asked Malik Riaz to use his influence and play role for a NRO-like deal,” says Naeem Ashraf Butt.
The meeting came three days after Nawaz Sharif arrived in Pakistan from London and appeared before an anti-corruption court in connection with proceedings of Panama Papers case. He later vowed to fight the allegations of corruption.
The case, in which Nawaz Sharif and his children will formally be indicted on Oct 2, could ultimately decide whether he faces imprisonment. – Samaa
