KARACHI: Sindh government alerted city administrations of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad divisions over a weather warning issued by Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and called upon them to take up measures ahead of flash urban flooding.
The Met Office issued weather advisory, “A strong monsoon weather system from India is heading towards Sindh and likely to enter in southeast Sindh in the evening of Tuesday the 29th August 2017.”
The Met Office said, “Under its influence rain/thundershowers with a number of moderate to heavy and few very heavy falls with strong gusty winds may occur in Sindh particularly in Lower division of Sindh including Karachi from 30th August to 1st September 2017.”
The Met Office warned, “Heavy falls may generate urban flooding in vulnerable areas of Lower Sindh.”
The Met Office also advised fishermen to take precautionary measures and not to venture in deep sea till 2nd September 2017.
In a letter issued by Provincial Disaster Management Authority, Sindh government issued directives to city administrations in the concerned cities to ensure all precautionary measures to avoid any untoward situation.
The provincial government ordered the concerned authorities to adopt effective response mechanism ahead of lashing rains in the respective cities.
Meantime, several areas of Karachi began receiving light to heavy downpours two hours after the noon today. –SAMAA
