Supreme Court accepts petition challenging CSS provincial quota

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday accepted a petition challenging quota reserved for provinces for appointment in service of Pakistan through Central Superior Services (CSS) examination.

The court also dismissed objections raised by Registrar Supreme Court.

Justice Gulzar Ahmad heard the plea in his chamber against SC Registrar objections.

Barrister Harris counsel for petitioner said that a quota was allocated for the provinces under Article 47 of the Constitution for a period of 40 years. However, he said, the quota was still intact despite the expiry of the 40-year limit in 2013.

He said that eligible candidates had been subjected to discrimination in the name of the quota for the provinces. He prayed the court to set aside the quota for the provinces and stay the examinations under the existing system.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed accepted plea and directed to fix the case for hearing.- APP
