Reasons why crackdown on protesters at Faizabad Interchange failed

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued detailed judgment in suo moto case regarding Faizabad sit in.

The Court has directed the Ministries of Interior and Defence to provide particulars of law enforcement personnel and civilians who died and injured during the operation. The Court has also sought particulars of public and private properties destroyed and damaged by the protesters with approximate value.

It has also issued notice to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority with the direction to exercise extreme vigilance of the electronic media to ensure that electronic media is strictly complying with the PEMRA Ordinance. The apex court has directed PEMRA to submit a comprehensive report regarding this.

In its eight paged order, the Supreme Court observed that those involved in violent activities or justifying violence, purportedly in the name of Islam, attempt to denigrate Islam and provide fodder to the enemies of Islam and Muslims.

The Court noted that freedom of speech and expression of media is guaranteed under the Constitution but media should act with responsibility. – APP
