ISLAMABAD: There is nary any couple which does not stumble from misunderstandings between them and these can often lead to comical situations but ultimately bring the two closer together.

This was the theme of the stage play “Meri Bewi Mujhay Miun”, performed during the ongoing National Theatre Festival 2017 at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) auditorium in Islamabad on Thursday.

Directed by renowned stage and television artiste Masood Khawaja, the comedy play featured prominent stage actors from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad including Waheed Minhas, Yar Muhammad Khan, Saeed Anwar, Sapna Shah, Shagufta Khan and Khawaja himself.

They put on a believable show of the pitfalls of marriage, the at-times tenuous relationships of a husband and a wife how one can put the other through a difficult situation when the former doubts the latter.

While the actors seemed to be well rehearsed in their roles, the witty dialogue papered over the few cracks there were in the performance.

“Such festivals are need of hour since they not only provide entertainment to the public but also educate them about critical family issues,” Khawaja said after the play, adding that the festival was important to provide artists with an opportunity to express and perform in a scenario where theatre has all but lost its audience.

Serious theatre can play a vibrant role in eradicating social taboos and misconceptions among family members, he added.
