ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is presiding over a National Security Committee meeting in Islamabad to devise a policy response to the new United States policy on Afghanistan.
Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah and other high-ranking civil-military officials are present in the huddle which is expected to take stock of the prevailing security environment.
The development comes less than a week after the country’s top civil-military brass out rightly rejected the “specific allegations and insinuations” levelled by US President Donald Trump in the first ever NSC meeting under the chair of PM Abbasi.
The response was made three days after President Trump unveiled his new Afghanistan strategy and singled out Pakistan for supporting what he called “agents of chaos”.
