US Diplomat Accident: Police Submit Report In FO

Islamabad (April 08, 2018): Police have submitted initial investigation report on the accident in which a motorcyclist was killed by the vehicle of a US diplomat in Islamabad.

A police officer, who was then performing duty at the scene, cited in the report that a car carrying an American diplomat had violated the traffic signal and  hit a motorcyclist, killing him on the spot.SHO Kohsar Police Station said that he allowed the ambassador to go. The FO expressed its annoyance over leaving the ambassador and sought expiation from the SHO.

Earlier, the Foreign Office on Sunday summoned US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale and registered a strong protest against the killing of a Pakistani citizen by a US official in a road accident in Islamabad.

In a statement issued from foreign office on Sunday, the US ambassador was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a strong protest was lodged by Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua on the tragic death of the motorcyclist and serious injury to the co-rider in the traffic accident on Saturday that involved a US diplomat.

It said that the envoy expressed his deep sympathy and sadness over the loss of life and assured that the embassy would fully cooperate in the investigation.

The foreign secretary conveyed that justice will take its course in accordance with the law of the land and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations 1961.
