United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday refused to defend President Donald Trump’s recent controversial remarks regarding African-Americans, stating that ‘the president speaks for himself.’
In response to a question, Rex Tillerson said that Donald Trump’s recent comments were not in line with American values.
This he said when the interviewer asked him whether he was distancing himself from Donald Trump’s remarks.
“I don’t believe anyone doubts the American people’s values or the commitment of the American government or the government’s agencies to advancing those values and defending those values,” he said.
Tillerson was being asked regarding Trump’s comments when he recently had a hot exchange with reporters at the White House regarding a violent protest in Charlottesville where white supremacists and anti-racism protesters clashed.
One person was killed and several injured when an individual from the white supremacists rammed his car straight into the opposing crowd.
“You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent,” is how Donald Trump reacted on the situation.
Trump also said that both sides had ‘very bad people’ and that the rightists had some ‘fine people’.
