LAHORE: Young doctors raised their voice for the umpteenth time as they shouted slogans against the Secretary for Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah.
The medics caused this disruption during a Postgraduate Resident Convention on induction policy which was held at the University of Health Sciences. The event was arranged by the Central Induction Policy (CIP) Committee and attended by and all residents of postgraduate programmes, including MD, MS, MDS and FCPS. Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah was also present. Matters were running smoothly in the meeting until the YDA members started creating a ruckus.
Senior teachers participated in the ceremony, while committee chairman professor Muhammad Awais and vice chancellor Professor Junaid Sarfraz Khan braved the situation. Majority of the PGRs participating in the convention disassociated themselves from those trying to create a disruption.
The Allied Health Organisation of Sheikh Zayed Hospital entered its six consecutive day of protests as members were up in arms against maltreatment at the hands of the medical facility’s administration.
Talking to The Express Tribune, AHO President Nasiruddin said the administration started beating senior staff members who raised a voice against wrongdoings at the hospital.
“We have boycotted the OPD since the protest, while all other facilities are operational. We were just pointing out corruption in the hospital, but they wanted to shut our mouth by using force, which is totally unacceptable,” he claimed.
