LAHORE: The accused in Zainab murder case will be produced before anti-terrorism court (ATC) today (Wednesday) as his 14-day physical remand ends today.
Police are expected to request the court for extenssion in physical remand of the accused, who is also named in cases of murder of seven other minor girls.
Meantime, Zainab’s father demanded the details in connection with the progress of the case. He demanded to be furnished with the details of revelations made by Imran during interrogations as well as the CCTV footage, reports of forensic test results.
Earlier yesterday, the ATC was informed that murderer of seven-year-old Zainab had been formally charged with rape and murder of seven other children in Kasur.
The investigation officer concerned submitted that the accused Imran not only raped and killed Zainab but also committed the same heinous crime earlier with other seven minor children.
He submitted that the suspect’s DNA was also matched with the samples recovered from the crime scenes in the said seven cases.
He pleaded with the court to grant five-day physical remand of the accused for investigation of the cases. At this, ATC-I Judge Sheikh Sajjad Ahmad remanded the accused Imran in police custody for three days.
The court ordered for producing him again on the expiry of the remand term. It was pertinent to mention that the accused Imran was produced before the court amid strict security arrangements in a special vehicle.
On January 24, the court handed over the accused Imran to police on a 14-day physical remand in Zainab murder case. Minor Zainab was kidnapped on January 4 from near her aunt’s house in Kasur.
Her body was discovered five days later from a garbage heap. The postmortem report revealed that she had been raped and murdered.
